This civilization was well developed in all aspects of human activity, including education. The teaching centers at Taxila attracted scholars from far and wide. Human migration led to people moving east and south where there were already flourishing societies in the Gangetic plains and in the plateau extending south from the Vindhyas.
There were seats of learning at Nalanda, Sarnath and many other places. Ancient travelers described the rich cultural heritage of this vast land. The teaching was conducted in ancient Gurukuls – comprising of the teacher (Guru) and his pupils in an Ashram like atmosphere (Gurukul).
